These are all the files related to the hair evidence gathered at the different crime scenes (the cottage, Guede's apartment, Sollecito's apartment, Sollecito's car).
The hair evidence was largely overlooked by everyone, including
the Scientific Police. This is primarily because Dr. Stefanoni, the police biologist, was tasked with finding DNA traces (which can also be found in hairs). And only a few hairs out of the 99 hairs gathered yielded DNA traces, (three hairs
yielded DNA traces compatible with Meredith's DNA.)
Even so, it is interesting to review the tables listing the hairs found and look at the hair color and length, to see what that data might suggest. This is a list of all the samples
with hairs sequestered and analyzed. The item number refers to the sample item number in the DNA report.
Item 14: seven wool hairs found on the cadaver; the DNA report, on page 3 in the location index, notes that these hairs are
from the vaginal area. However the crime scene video showed that only a few hairs came from there. It is probable the other four hairs came from elsewhere on the cadaver, like the back or hand.
Item 44: a women's sweater at Sollecito's
apartment. It had five blonde hairs ranging from 4 to 20 cm (most were cut), as well as one fiber hair.
Item 56: a kitchen sponge a Sollecito's apartment. It had:
(10) blonde hairs ranging from 4
to 20 cm (most not cut)
(2) chestnut hairs ranging from 5 to 8 cm
(1) light chestnut hair 9 cm long
(1) red blonde hair 8 cm
long
(1) black hair 4 cm long
Item 57: a lilac towel found in the clothes washer in the upper apartment at the cottage. It had a chestnut hair 6 cm long.
Item 59: Meredith's bra found on the floor
in her bedroom. It had one light chestnut hair that was 2 cm long and had been cut.
Item 60: a green towel thoroughly blood stained found under the cadaver. It had:
(1) chestnut hair 25 cm long that
was cut
(1) light chestnut hair 20 cm long
Item 61: a light-colored towel with blood stains found under the cadaver. It had:
(6) chestnut hairs ranging from 8
to 25 cm
(3) red chestnut hairs ranging from 20 to 25 cm
(1) dark chestnut hair 20 cm long
Item 62: a beige towel found on Meredith's bed. It had:
(1) white hair 3.5 cm long and cut
(1) chestnut hair 12 cm long
Item 63: a blood-stained fitted bedsheet found under the cadaver. It had:
(3)
chesnut hairs ranging from 2 to 4 cm long
(1) red chestnut hair 30 cm long
(1) blonde hair 20 cm long
(1) black hair 4 cm long
(1) animal hair
Item 64: this sample contained three toilet papers, cotton balls and a hair found on the desk in Meredith's bedroom. The hair was a chestnut hair 13 cm long.
Item 87: a "disk" of paper found
under the nightstand in Sollecito's bedroom. It had one chestnut hair 3 cm long and broken.
Item 110: Knox's multi-colored purse sequestered during her arrest at the police station. It had one chestnut hair 5 cm long and cut.
Item
115: pair of jeans worn by Meredith and found on the floor of her bedroom next to the cadaver. It had:
(2) chestnut hairs ranging from 12 to 30 cm long
(1) red
chestnut hair 11 cm long
(1) animal hair
Item 121: hairs collected under the clothes drying rack in the corridor of the apartment. This group had:
(5) red chestnut
hairs ranging from 2 to 17 cm long
(4) chestnut hairs ranging from 2 to 20 cm long; one hair had DNA compatible with Meredith's DNA.
Item 138: a blonde hair found in the sink of the small bathroom
used by Meredith and Knox. It was 10 cm long.
Item 154: a red chestnut hair found on the bathroom floor in Guede's apartment. It was 12 cm long.
Item 155: a red chestnut hair found on the bathroom floor in Guede's apartment. It was
9 cm long.
Item 156: two red chestnut hairs found in a cup holding a toothbrush Guede's apartment. They ranged from 12 to 20 cm long.
Item 166: the purse found on Meredith's bed. It had a blonde hair 14 cm long.
Item 167: a sock
found on the floor of Meredith's bedroom (likely worn by Meredith). It had a light blonde hair 15 cm long, and a fiber.
Item 168: a mop in a closet in the corridor in the upper apartment. It had a blonde hair 15 cm long.
Item 171:
a blood-stained sweat jacket worn by Meredith and found on the floor by the cadaver. It had:
(1) chestnut hair 18 cm long
(1) light chestnut hair 7.5 cm long
Item
185: a blood-stained duvet that covered the cadaver. It had:
(2) fibers
(8) chestnut hairs ranging from 6 to 30 cm long. Two of these had DNA compatible with Meredith's
DNA (15 and 23 cm long)
(3) chestnut hairs ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 cm long.
(2) blonde hairs ranging from 1.5 to 8 cm long.
(1)
black hair 22 cm long
(4) black hairs ranging from 1 to 2 cm long
Item 198: a dark chestnut hair 6 cm long found on the window frame pane where the glass was broken, in Romanelli's room.
Guede
had short black hair, conceivably 4 cm long or shorter.
Knox had long bonde hair.
Sollecito had short light chestnut to chestnut hair, conceivably 10 cm or shorter.
Meredith had chestnut, red chestnut and black hair, of varying
length.
The above list seems to support the presence of all three during the time of the murder. Notable are:
Short black hairs on the duvet, fitted bedsheet and on a kitchen sponge at Sollecito's apartment.
Blonde hairs on
the fitted bedsheet, duvet, purse and sock in Meredith's room, as well as on the mop.
Light chestnut hairs on the sweat jacket and bra.
Short chestnut hairs 6 cm or less on the duvet and fitted bedsheet cover in Meredith's room,
under the clothes drying rack in the corridor and on the lilac towel in the clothes washer.
Long red chestnut hairs at Guede's apartment, on the bathroom floor and in a cup holding his toothbrush.
The Scientific Police DNA report and the DNA lab logs, both of which include data on the hairs found on the objects sequestered.
